Overlord: Fellowship of Evil Edit
In a recent tweet from the Codemasters twitter account, a new Overlord game has been all but confirmed. Also, the Gnarl twitter account has been very active of late, and it is rumored that a major announcement is on the way.
Since Summer 2009 when Overlord 2 has been released, we have been working on multiple unannounced projects. The project we’re about to announce today isn’t Overlord 3 or a spiritual sequel. However we have done extensive pre-production, engine work and playable prototypes on projects that would very much appeal to Overlord fans. But with all the volatility in our industry and the coming console transition, the planets haven’t aligned favorably for this type of project to be taken into full scale production - yet. We have high hopes that in the future we’ll be able to bring you humor filled action RPG games with added minions. Overlord was blast to make. Please bear with us that we can’t talk freely about any future Overlord titles specifically as this series is owned by publisher Codemasters. We thank you for your playing our games and hope for your understanding and that you might give this new game a try – you’ll find plenty of Triumph’s signature style there! For now we post this little glimpse of what we have been working on. As Gnarl says: Evil will always find a way! :)
"After the destruction of our last Overlord, the land was in a state of pastoral bliss. Filled with pleasant conversation and tinkly niceness. It was all so very... dull.
Evil, it seemed, was on its last legs. We Minions searched high and low until we found our salvation. All that remained was to find the right evil candidates. Dead evil candidates.
The brutal Inferna, legendary warrior, crushed in aggressive altercations with rock trolls.
Devilish necromancer Malady who extinguished her own life in return for a nefarious dark curse.
Dwarven rogue Hakon and dark elf Prince Cryos – killed by each other’s hand. A two-for-one evil bargain!
And so with the resurrection of these dark champions we begin to spread a little chaos again."
Triumph has been working on a new Overlord experienceEdit
we have been working on that sort of game. Whether or not it's Overlord 3 I can't tell [you], but there's definitely stuff that's in the works."
related post on the Triumph Facebook page "Since Summer 2009 when Overlord 2 has been released, we have been working on multiple unannounced projects," it read. "We have done extensive pre-production, engine work and playable prototypes on projects that would very much appeal to Overlord fans. "But with all the volatility in our industry and the coming console transition, the planets haven't aligned favourably for this type of project to be taken into full-scale production - yet. We have high hopes that in the future we'll be able to bring you humour-filled action-RPG games with added minions."Overlord 3, since the IP is owned by Codemasters, it's unknown when it will be made, but is hinted that will carry another name and maybe it'll change type of gameplay."Well Overlord is of course a game that has been published with Codemasters and they are the IP owners," he acknowledged. "At this point we've been in talks, but I can't tell a lot about this. It's something that we're still very fond of. We'd love to announce a new game there soon but not yet - not at this moment. We'd love to return to that vibe and game and world again. Whether or not that's with Codemasters or in some other form we can't tell - we can't disclose at this moment."
Both Overlord games were well received although Overlord 2 didn't seem to sell well. They were part of Codemasters' attempt to distinguish itself as a publisher of games other than racers. It was a venture that didn't work out, and today Codemasters sticks more or less to the racing games it does best. Triumph is currently working Age of Wonders 3, which it's been working on since 2010 and officially announced in 13 February 2013, that will be released in 30 March 2014.
Overlord: Fellowship of Evil is chronologically after Overlord 2. After the Destruction of the fourth Overlord, Gnarl and the other Minions have been driven down to the Nether-deep in the deepest, darkest recesses of the Netherworld. A plague of goodness called The Golden is infecting everything with niceness and approaching the Nether-deep, causing the Minions to be almost wiped out. Without Minions there can be no Overlord.
Gnarl has a wonderful plan to resurrect the bodies of four evil doers as his sub-lieutenants called the Netherghoul, however there can be only one Overlord.
