Magic is a blanket term for supernatural abilities powered by energy referred to as mana. Overlords, the WizardFay, elves, and the known gods are the most prevalent examples of magic-using entities.

Uses:[]

Spellcraft:[]

How the Overlord’s spell stones work, crafting a spell and then attaching it to a stone, then using it afterwards.

Ritual Magic:[]

What Gnarl used to create the Netherghuls.

Wizardry/Witchery/Sorcery:[]

Presumably the control over wind, fire, lightning and nature, alongside generating barriers i.e, what the Wizard does.

Mutation and other biological magic:[]

What happened when the Tower Heart exploded. Might also be how succubi create their zombies.

Necromancy:[]

It results in zombies.

Creature Creation, Summoning and Binding:[]

What the Black Baron did to create or summon minions. And what Oberon, thanks to the Evil energy he generated, presumably did with his nightmares, which manifested as the Skulls. Reapers in the Abysses do the same, but with wraiths. Sir William also summoned the Succubus Queen.

Magical Technology[]

What the Glorious Empire uses. No way those magic-hoovers Eradicators use are not magical, same thing with Marius and Rose’s teleportation.

Morality:[]

There are both good and evil flavors of magic in the World. The Overlord can use it for Good or Evil, while Fay, the Wizard (before his possession), and the elves are known for using it to do good.

Magic Creatures:[]

Unaligned Magical Creatures[]

Light Magical Creatures[]

Light magic creatures are creatures that are magical but created by magic with good power and who themselves use magic for a good purpose.

Dark Magical Creatures[]

Dark magic creatures are creatures that are magical but use it for nefarious purposes, unlike light magical creatures who are created with good power. Dark magic affects the behaviour of creatures who wield it. When light and dark magic are fused together, then the twisted magic that caused the Great Cataclysm and magical plague is the result. Apparently dark magic traits do take over, but light magic might be what contaminates dark magic and the magic alone contaminates non-magical creatures.

Creatures created by another dark magic creature, summoned or brought to life count as dark magic, as dark magic can do stuff on their own unlike light magic which works together. Dark magic can twist the mind of creatures like in Evernight: the Skulls corrupted the unicorns that could heal, but instead drink the blood of creatures, so dark magic appears to be more powerful as dark magic corrupts. Dark magic also twists the appearance of creatures, like the Third Overlord becoming shadow-like and covered in boney spikes when he is Evil, the unicorns don't have straight horns and mutated minions grow in size and look like mutated Reds even if they were not originally. Dark magic conflicts with everything and can even make non-magical creatures or objects fall under its effects, for instance in the Temple of the Mother Goddess. There were boulder beasts and the presence of an overseer might have transformed the rocks into monsters. Overseers contain dark magic, so they corrupted the rocks around them. Another example is when a red priest angered the Succubus Queen in Heaven's Peak. Another example that does not involve demons is in Evernight. Oberon fell asleep thanks to the Wizard’s venomous words and this summoned enough Evil energy to corrupt the whole forest and manifest his nightmares as the Skulls.
